With its users reaching the figure of 300 million, Facebook is definitely in a position where it might not feel any great challenge from other social networking sites. Facebook has become a dominant name in social networking arena, but how long Facebook will remain so?
The answer could be that Facebook is going to rule the world of web for a long time to come, it is the hottest brand of internet at this time, earning huge revenues from internet by offering different interesting and easy to use social networking tools, and is currently ahead in its competition with rival Twitter.
As the investments coming to flow in for Facebook, its subscribers are multiplying day by day, and according to some recent reports, Facebook has achieved some of its revenue targets in the current year which were set to be achieved in 2010.
It was unpredictable five years back that Facebook, which was started from a dormitory room, will become most favorite site on internet and will rule the hearts and minds of internet users. Facebook is continuing its efforts to launch new services and revamp it current service like it has just revamped its search features.
By considering these facts, we can easily come to a conclusion that Facebook is currently in a very solid position and poised for a further rapid growth, and it might challenge big names like Google and Yahoo in future also.

Facebook will be the predominant social networking site until someone does it better. And I don’t think it is a very high bar to vault. Facebook did it to MySpace. And hopefully something built on OpenSocial will come along to dethrone it soon, so we can really start seeing some cool and useful social applications come to light.
Also, I don’t really consider Twitter and Facebook competitors. Loosely maybe, but not really. As for Google and Yahoo, Facebook isn’t even close to a competitor. Facebook doesn’t index the internet in any way as far as I know. Twitter is becoming competitor to Google in local and real time search, but Facebook? No way.

FaceBook does have the wall, which provides the core feature of Twitter, so in a way, they are competitors. The difference between Twitter and Facebook lies in privacy – Twitter is your way of broadcasting something out to the whole world, which Facebook is something you would use only for sending out the word to your buddies. This makes Twitter more likely to be used for marketing campaigns and for connecting service providers with those who need service. Facebook appeals to the ‘common’ person – games, amusing quizzes, photo and video sharing, chat and other fun stuff. If you do want to use Facebook commercially, you would have to take the time to create a Facebook application and push it across – barriers to entry, in other words.

Facebook is used in most part of the world… but orkut is one which is more elegant and has better interface with gmail and other google stuff like chat…
which make it #1 choice when it come to communication tool …
it is widely used in brazil and india alone .. and other south asian nations…
as and when people start knowing @ orkut they would like it…..
but orkut does not have any commercial value other than advertisement…
