Facebook is used in most part of the world... but orkut is one which is more elegant and has better interface with gmail and other google stuff like chat...

which make it #1 choice when it come to communication tool ...

it is widely used in brazil and india alone .. and other south asian nations...

as and when people start knowing @ orkut they would like it.....

but orkut does not have any commercial value other than advertisement...

FaceBook does have the wall, which provides the core feature of Twitter, so in a way, they are competitors. The difference between Twitter and Facebook lies in privacy - Twitter is your way of broadcasting something out to the whole world, which Facebook is something you would use only for sending out the word to your buddies. This makes Twitter more likely to be used for marketing campaigns and for connecting service providers with those who need service. Facebook appeals to the 'common' person - games, amusing quizzes, photo and video sharing, chat and other fun stuff. If you do want to use Facebook commercially, you would have to take the time to create a Facebook application and push it across - barriers to entry, in other words.

Facebook will be the predominant social networking site until someone does it better. And I don't think it is a very high bar to vault. Facebook did it to MySpace. And hopefully something built on OpenSocial will come along to dethrone it soon, so we can really start seeing some cool and useful social applications come to light.

Also, I don't really consider Twitter and Facebook competitors. Loosely maybe, but not really. As for Google and Yahoo, Facebook isn't even close to a competitor. Facebook doesn't index the internet in any way as far as I know. Twitter is becoming competitor to Google in local and real time search, but Facebook? No way.
