Virtualization Interoperability between Redhat and Microsoft

Red Hat has recently announced the availability of virtualization environments that use both Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Both Microsoft and Redhat have completed the testing for this solution, and its support from both of these companies are available.

According to Redhat, following certifications included in this test:

• Validation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4, using the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor, with Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

• Certification of Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V and Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 host with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2, 5.3, and 5.4 guests.

• Customers with valid support agreements receive cooperative technical support for:

Running Windows Server operating system virtualized on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, and running Red Hat Enterprise Linux virtualized on Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V.

• Future versions of products from both companies will be validated under these agreements.

The solution provided by these two companies would definitely help Administrators who have to maintain and run multiple platforms for virtualization, it also seems that both Microsoft and Redhat have come to a single platform in an attempt to gain control of virtualization platforms market.
