In the month of April 2010, it is reported that many Windows XP PCs were infected by McAfee upgrade. Then having received the complaints from all over the world McAfee fixed buggy software with a upgrade from their servers and gave a new McAfee upgrade with fixes but that was not a solution for the users with infected systems.

Also McAfee announced reimbursement for affected users according to McAfee official blog:

For impacted customers who have paid costs to repair PCs as a result of the security update issue, McAfee will provide to reimburse reasonable expenses, visit to a tech support .

McAfee announced the free two-years extension to their subscription with no extra charge. The customers may find extension on McAfee Web site within the next 30 days.
