Unity – New Desktop Environment For Ubuntu Notebook Edition

ubuntu

Canonical has just announced that ‘Unity’ will be the new desktop environment for its famous operating system ‘Ubuntu’. This new desktop environment will be available with Ubuntu 10.10 Notebook edition that is expected to be released in October 2010.

Unity is a new addition to the world of desktop environment that will include new panel and application launcher thus enabling users to access the PC applications with great ease.

Canonical has also introduced ‘Unity Light’, a basic variant of ‘Unity’ for Ubuntu. The purpose of this light desktop environment is to provide users the facility to instantly connect with the internet. ‘Unity Light’ includes chat, IM, browser and media player applications.

Canonical is always eager to provide new features and more enhanced experience to its users. In my opinion this is the basic reason behind the phenomenal success of its products, particularly its flagship operating system ‘Ubuntu’ that has gained great popularity in the recent past.
