Spyware Installed by Freely Downloadable Mac Apps

Intego, the company that develops and sells desktop Internet security and privacy softwares for Mac OS, has just disclosed that spyware application can be installed through different Mac applications and screen savers that are available as a free download from different sites.

The spyware named OSX/OpinionSpy does lot of malicious activity on your PC, it can scan your files and record users activity, and it can also send information about these activities to its remote servers thus it provides a backdoor access on the infected Mac.

Macs.OSX/OpinionSpy can install it self during the installation of numerous applications and screen savers that can be downloaded from various sites that offers Mac based softwares. Although the downloaded softwares are not infected by the spyware but it can install itself during the installation.

Such types of infections can only be avoided by installing good antivirus/anti-malware software. It is strongly recommended for Mac Users that they should do it at their earliest to avoid such type of infections.
