Linux has strong support for IPv6-enabled daemons. Linux DNS daemon “named” has IPv6 support since version 9. XINETD version 2 has IPv6 support. Web server Apache 2 supports IPv6 by listening on IPv6 addresses and Virtual hosts listening on IPv6 addresses. DHCPv6 can be used for stateful configurations. The daemon itself need not necessary run on the Linux default IPv6 gateway router.
Microsoft’s Vista operating system has support for IPv6. It uses a tunnel of IPv6 over IPv4. In Microsoft Vista IPv6 support is enabled by default and IPv6 enabled applications can be executed. Users can configure IPV6 settings through properties of Internet Protocol. Vista has capability of IPv6 addresses in URLs. Vista uses DHCPv6 configuration on local IPv6 network.

After IPV4 depletion, the important issue is IPV6 deployment. APNIC is focusing on IPV6 deployment in Asia Pacific region. Hence IPV6 implementation must be encouraged in different organizations in Pakistan.
